The war is over and Linux won (ZDNet)

This ZDNet blog post looks at an IBM sponsored study. "Web servers and database servers remain the dominant applications, but development environments are now among the most popular systems in production, meaning the trend toward Linux and open source applications should accelerate."

Firstly I think it should be said that a battle has been won, not the "war." I don't think the "war" will be won any more than the "war on terrorism" will be won. It's a constant struggle.

Secondly it should be realized that this is an IBM (read, pro Linux) survey, so we can't say that it's entirely without bias.

Still, it sounds like good news!

I hate sponsored studies no matter who they come from. Even worse is the blog title. So like what? RMS is out of a job now? The FSF can disband? Uh huh.

Right... The next war might be to redefine what Linux means...

Like one of those oft-mentioned possibilities like locking down DRM-ed
Linux into running only signed applications...

there /is/ space for creative reframing.

it's not a possiblity.(the drm'ng of Linux) It's a reality. :) People are doig it right now.

The only question is if it is making enough impact for anybody to realy care.
