Microsoft wants to be the only game in town. Unfortunately, they don't have the engineering skills to pull it off successfully.I would be careful about underestimating Microsoft's collective software engineering skills. They hire a lot of smart people.

Seen anything come out of MS Research that MS has actually used yet?
