Extended validation certificates
Given the verisign website seemed to suggest at 128/256 bit SSL certificate valid for two year is £949.00 (about $1500), not including VAT, one would imagine only websites with very deep pockets would but a cerficate from them. Maybe those in the US get keener prices. Thawte is more reasonable but still very expensive.
For comparison purposes a comparable from Comodo's install SSL is about £67. If nominet has mispelt your company name you probably have to get that fixed that before you the certificate is issued (FYI the site I have in ming is not accepting credits cards or accessable to the general public).
Of course maybe EV certificates, when they become avaialble, will cost even more.
