Hello,
we are in the process to develop a new version of the pctel driver.

Biggest changes will be:
* Improve configure script, so that it will automatically detect the
modem and install it automagically (for beginners). It has also a
manual option for experts.
* Removal of the autoconf style. Back to bash!
* Add support for i8xx hal type, so that it will work nicely with the
onboard sound module together (thanks Bernd!).

The beta driver can be found at
http://www.medres.ch/~jstifter/pctel/pctel-0.9.7.html

Please download and test it, if you own a PCTel modem. If your modem
did not work in the past with the 0.9.6 driver, it will not work in
this driver too (no additional modems have been added so far).

Download and use at your own risk. This is really BETA, which means
that some stuff doesn't work yet (for example the installation).
Please try only, if you have a basic knowledge about linux. This is
development testing, not a stable release.

Most important: Please report me your results and what you like and
dislike. We are very much open for improvements and adds. If you would
like to contribute, please take a look at the todo.

Please do not spread this driver around, as it will change in the next
days and weeks very much.
Many thanks for any feedback.
Jan
