I've been running the 2.0 (beta) branch for a while now, and recently installed the latest version (beta4), but while it all looks nice and shiny, I've got to admit I'm a bit disappointed in the state of some features - particularly, file transfers and direct connects (the latter on AIM - I'm not sure if other protocols have similar functionality).

Both these things have gradually worsened over time; in 0.59.6 (yes, that was a LONG time ago!), they worked just fine, but then, things started going downhill, and now in 2.0beta4, the last remaining protocol that had working file transfers (IRC) also threw the towel.

This is definitely annoying, and to be honest, when I think back to the 0.59.x days, I wonder what GAIM has actually *gained* since then, too. Sure, there's a handful of new protocols, and of course, the existing ones have been kept up to date to cope with unexpected protocol changes and the ensuing breakage, too, but I sometimes wonder all that the past four or five years of development have brought is a few new protocols and the breaking of basic features. If yes, it reflects rather poorly on the GAIM team, I'm afraid.
