Did you not read what I said? I addressed the point about most of the
manufacturers going off into hardware DRM land. Rockbox's very existence
holds the possibility of convincing another manufacturer to make a free
device, because if they do, they can take advantage of Rockbox and save on
engineering and product development costs in order to give them a
competitive edge. I've raised this point multiple times now -- I'm rather
amazed you missed it.
