What does it mean to join the Software Freedom Conservancy?

One thing I like about the look of the Conservancy / SFLC was that it was
built by people whose motives in terms of the promotion of freedom we do
not need to call into question. There are many corporate-driven efforts to
help free and open source software, but these must be watched more
carefully since our interests, though often aligned, might not always be.

Unfortunately, I expect to see some FUD spread by those who distrust the FSF, since the board of directors has GPLv3 co-author Eben Moglen, former FSF VP Brad Kuhn, and many other FSF/GNU veterans and volunteers. There's no good reason other than paranoia for such fears, though.
