Hi LWN,
some time ago, the inclusion of proprietary graphics driver modules
in the Gentoo-derived Kororaa LiveCD (kororaa.org) was a much-discussed
topic on LWN (or at least, I remember it being that way).
Chris Smart has put considerable effort into finding out if including
those modules is legal (and morally right) and now has decided to
keep the modules out of the LiveCD, but of course they can still be
installed manually.
(It also seems that now Mandriva and Sabayon Linux have included such
modules in their releases. Maybe it's worth another story on the front
page?)
I'm a regular reader of LWN (even if I don't have PayPal or a credit card
to get a subscription) and didn't find anything about these news by now,
so I thought maybe it's a good idea to inform you, in case you don't
already know about it. Even though I just discovered it today, the
news entry on kororaa.org is already from October 3rd, so it's not totally
breaking news anymore. Anyways, I suppose some readers will still be
interested in how the issue did resolve.
Keep on rocking, you're my favorite Free Software news source out there!
Sincerely,
Jakob
