The problem with this argument is it assumes that a GPL v3 OS could have an appreciable impact on the trends you mention. I'm a long ways from convinced on that point. I think it would be a very bad idea for people to put all their eggs in the gpl v3 basket.
Far more effective would be an approach that somehow blunts the lobbying efforts of the entertainment industry. I don't find it credible that the gpl v3 will have any appreciable impact in that area.
Some of the activities of the music and movie lobbying groups are starting to sound mighty close to racketering. I wonder if anyone has tried to persue some sort of legal action along those lines?
