Here are my wishes, in order of importance:

  • Fix memory leaks.
That's it. I'm sick and tired of my Firefox, official build with no plugins or extensions, slowly building up to a crash at around half a gigabyte. It's gotten better but it's still unacceptable. A web browser should never require a hundred of megabytes of memory.

Memory leaks should be fixed, yes. However, I disagree about memory usage. Firefox using a gigabyte of RAM is fine with me if I get something for it. Something like an extra fast "Back" button, or really great Javascript, DHTML and AJAX support.

Features that use piles of RAM should be user-adjustable, so you and I can both have what we want.

Firefox's bad memory usage behavior hurts,
especially on older machines. Try this:

Run firefox for a while until it gets nice and big
Run some other job that uses lots of memory,
so firefox gets paged out
Try to quit Firefox

On my dual 650Mhz box with 512MB RAM,
it can take *minutes* for Firefox to finish
quitting.

This is pain nobody should have to endure.
