One "advantage" of the massive propaganda campaign by software hoarders is that very few people are unaware of the need to have a license to do things covered by copyright. Sadly, in many jurisdictions, use of the software is an act covered by copyright, and ignorance of the copyright is no defense.

I question the assumption implied by your use of the word "or" in the above.

I also question the need for anyone to be sued. In many jurisdictions, copyright infringement is now a *criminal* offense, which is chargeable.The copyright holder doesn't even need to be involved.

The comment was rhetorical, meant mainly to note that the installer
program provider could also get in trouble for hiding the license stuff.
