Red Hat hires top channel exec (Linux-Watch)

Linux-Watch covers Red Hat's hiring of Mark Enzweiler. "Everyone in the channel business knows that Red Hat Inc. has never done all that well by its system integrator, value-added reseller, and solution provider partners. Things are about to change, however, with the hiring of Mark Enzweiler as its VP North American Channel Sales. Enzweiler is extremely well regarded in channel circles."

"never done all that well" is a massive understatement. I worked for a small consulting firm, and we shelled out $5000 to join the "Red Hat Authorized Resller program" - essentially for the privilege of selling their boxed sets and for some hope that they would send us some sales leads. The hoped for return on the investment would have been in providing consulting. Red Hat cashed the check and then the person who was supposed to deal with us left the company, and we appear to have just disappeared from their records. About a year later they bought a systems consulting firm, apparently to do just the kind of work we had intended to do.

Perhaps that was an anomaly, but if that was a common experience, they've got some serious ill will to overcome.

It would be nice if they could leverage RHCEs that work for resellers. I don't even know where to go to get a list of local RHCEs for hire, and I sure would have liked one recently.
