Mandriva Linux 2007 releasedMandriva Linux 2007 releasedPosted Oct 5, 2006 2:08 UTC (Thu) by boklm (guest, #34568)Parent article: Mandriva Linux 2007 released
"It has all the new stuff, but also a certain amount of proprietary software (LinDVD, for example), so there is no downloading without purchasing the distribution first."
What ? That's totally wrong. Mandriva 2007 is available for free, and you don't have to purchase anything to be able to download it. You can get a commercial version including some commercial software (such as Cedega, which allows you to play video games made for Windows) if you want, but there is also a free version which includes only free software. It is free and gratis, and it includes all the nice features. You can get it from this page, throught bittorrent (and probably throught ftp mirrors later) :
There is also the Mandriva One version, a live-cd which allows you to do an install if you want (but you don't have to, you can use it from the CD, so it's nice for testing). There are differents versions, depending or wether you want Gnome or KDE, only free software or also some proprietary drivers. And you don't have to pay anything for any of them, you can download them from this page :
There's more details on this page (better than the press release I think) :

Correct your announcement, LWN!
