Hi,
I have released ZeroShell Net Services 1.0.beta2.
This Linux distribution, available in the form of live cd or
compact flash image for embedded devices, provides the main
nework services a LAN requires.
I send you this message because I'd like to see a little
news on your site. If you think it is possible the news
could be like this:
The realease 1.0.beta2 of ZeroShell Linux server
distribution is now available for download. The main new
feature of this release is the possibility to use ZeroShell
as a Captive Portal gateway to authenticate the network
accesses using web login. This type of authentication is
used for example in the Hotels and in the Wi-Fi HotSpots in
which after you are connected to the network and obtained an
IP you have to insert your username and password in the web
browser to use Internet.
With ZeroShell you are able to design multi-gateway Captive
Portals in which a web login server can provide the
authentication for several captive gateways. The
authentication server is able to validate the users using
the local Kerberos 5 server, an external KDC or
cross-authentication between Kerberos realms. The last two
possibilities allow authentication server to authenticate
the users of a Microsoft Windows Active Directory domain.
An other feature is the possibility to use either the routed
mode or the bridged mode: in the former one the gateway is
the default router for the subnet that you want to protect.
In bridged mode, you can activate the Captive Portal on a
network interface that is member of a bridge. In this
manner, after a client is authenticated, the captive gateway
becomes transparent and every kind of Ethernet traffic (not
only IP as in routed mode) is forwarded.
In the ZeroShell Captive Portal, the web login html page as
well as the user messages and the language of the
authentication phase can be customized by the administrator.
Other features of ZeroShell Net Service available in the
form of live cd and compact flash image to boot embedded
devices for network appliances are:
Radius server to authenticate wireless accesses to the
network using WPA and WPA2; routing and bridging with
support for VLAN 802.1Q, Spanning Tree Protocol and RIPv2;
users and hosts authentication and authorization using
Kerberos 5 and LDAP protocols; integration between
Linux/Unix environments and Windows Active Directory
domains; Virtual Private Networks by using L2TP/IpSec for
host-to-site VPN and OpenVPN for site-to-site VPN over a SSL
encrypted tunnel ; DNS and dhcp servers; dynamic dns client
and PPPoE client for xDSL connections; load balancing
between xDSL connections to increase the bandwidth and
improve the reliability; SPI firewall and packet filter;
virtual servers.
In the next release will be included the support for QoS and
bandwidth limiting.
