people aren't arguing that the license should never be changed no matter what.
what they are arguing is that they don't see the new license being in the same spirit as the old one. they don't see major loopholes that need to be closed.
the FSF does see large holes that desperatly need to be closed, and they seem willing to take drastic measures to do so (and a major license change is such a drastic measure)
unfortunantly, for many people these actions are prooving their worst fears about the 'or later' clause to be true, and this loss of trust will hurt any future changes that the FSF attempts to make (including those made in response to much more pressing problems)
