Although on the surface the disagreement was over the busybox license, I think the real underlying problems were of a non-technical and non-licensing policy nature. My personal opinion is that the (now former) maintainer was in some cases lacking in civility and took many issues personally. If a different approach to interacting with the contributers to busybox had been taken, I think the project and all involved would have been better off.

Unfortunately this type of situation is not rare in the world of FOSS.

Tell you what. Why don't you sink that much of your own time and effort into a similar project? Then, when some absentee father comes out of dusty history and starts wasting you and your lawyers' time by unilaterally declaring what you should do with it, let's see how YOU take it.

Not well, I'd guess. I do wish Rob could have been more civil but, all said, I hear where he's coming from. And I do hope he stays part of the project; BusyBox is great largely thanks to his efforts.
