I agree, it's easy to worry that Perl6 will "Jump the Shark". It's also easy to move to another language. (Ruby is *much* better replacement than Python. Ruby has all of the power of Perl, but with better syntax.) Nobody wants their language to be the next Cobol.
But so far, Perl6 appears to be a good solid upgrade to Perl5. Perl may slow down, but it won't die. Perl6 allows you to write readable parsers because of the Rules engine. Superpositions are an innovative concept allowing any variable can have many values, but code can treat it like a single variable.
As always, choice and innovation are good. Thanks for the article.
