Hey cool, one million Flash developers! Too bad, that I cannot take a look at their works, as long as there is no free (and working!) flash player.

I should have mentioned that Lessig did talk (briefly) about Gnash and how important it is to bring that development forward.

Yes, unfortunately swf-player and gnash are not really working, i.e. swf-player fails on the majority of flash files I tried, gnash segfaults. Instead of using those experimental programs as an excuse, one should encourage developers of free content to use at least free formats, or better free software and free formats.

I think all conversations about the state of software should have a sign attached at the beginning I once saw at a NC college:

Patches are always welcomes, excuses can be left at the door please.

Still though you have to admit that Free formats are much more desirable.

Sorry, my posting was mistakable: I don't really care that much about a working swf-player or gnash. Instead I like people, who care about free content, to use free formats in the first place. Yes, I know, people will continue playing with flash and therefore we desperately need a free flash player. But prominent free software advocats should encourage to use free formats, not tell me to use proprietary software (that does not work on my machine anyway).
