Things just got uglier:

We therefore bid a fond farewell to the following NetBSD developers [...]:

        [...]
        Charles M. Hannum
        [...]

It'll be interesting to see what happens now - personally, I hope that the NetBSD situation will resolve in the same way as the Xfree86 situation.

Precisely what Hannum spoken about: the overlapping of powers between NetBSD Project and NetBSD Foundation.

Not that it's first time we see that a BSD is bent over politics.

Still, Charles and the other NetBSD developers expelled from the project can look on the bright side. Crooks don't want to associate with them. What greater validation of one's moral rectitude is there? ;-)

And thus is the coup completed... what I find most disturbing (although this may be because I'm a bit simple) is that whilst this statement is obviously a response to Hannum's criticism, they choose to insult everyone's intelligence by pretending it's just a simple edge-tidying...

Still, as someone else pointed out, the same thing happened to Keith Packard. And we all know how well that turned out. ;) But at least XFree86 were honest enough to make it clear that it was personal. This announcement looks like the product of someone who truly believes that pretending to be impersonal and bureaucratic will allow them to turn around and say "You can't possibly think that!" and be believed. That level of self-deception doesn't generally augur well for successful leadership; it's characteristic of people who desperately want to be leaders, and not of those to whom it comes naturally.
