I'd have to say this came as a surprise to me, but then I'm not involved in the internals of NetBSD. I've found NetBSD 3 to be a very nice platform--I haven't had the time to use it in a large installation, but in the experimentation I have done, it's been very pleasant. It would be a darn shame if the project were to wither and die, especially because of the huge bonus that the emphasis on portability gives. :-(
