Sendmail gets a "0" suitability score for those who are "relying on sendmail milters". If this is right (and I don't know, as I am not a sendmail person), it cries out for some kind of explanation.

Milter was developed for sendmail and is still the primary target, by definition it has to be at least somewhat suitable and I doubt it's less suitable than Postfix (my preferred MTA).
