growisofs is mainly DVD writing software, and I am very happy with it.

It uses mkisofs when you write some directory tree to the DVD, or it can just directly write ISO images.

Unfortunatley, it does not make cdrtools completely unnecessary, for two reasons:

1) mkisofs is part of cdrtools

2) At least the version I have of growisofs does not write CDs
