This is still a step forward if it prevents spammers from posting clickable links.
If they have clickable links recognizable by browsers / e-mail readers, the same links will be recognizable by anti-spam software and can be used for filtering.
Not having clickable links will raise the threshold for people to respond to the scams.

I'd say most spam that gets through nowadays already looks like a barely readable garbage that no intelligent reader would try reading at all.
