Congress to take on spam, copyright (News.com)

News.com looks at the 2003 legislative agenda in the U.S. "On Tuesday, Rep. Rick Boucher, D-Va., and three other legislators reintroduced their bill from last year that would defang the DMCA. Their proposal, called the Digital Media Consumers' Rights Act, would let Americans bypass copyright-protection schemes for legitimate 'fair use' purposes."

I'm not an american but if I was I'd vote Nader.

(He will be running, won't he?)
(Is Boucher realistic (would he get more than 1% (or more than Nader?)))

Well, Boucher *is* part of the Deomcratic party, which is one of the two annointed parties that has a hope of winning.

As such, were he to get the party's nomination, he would be a viable candidate.

Boucher is my representative (and a very good one; I cross party lines to vote for him each time). Unfortunately, he doesn't have any national recognition. Realistically, I don't believe he has any presidential aspirations whatsoever. In a country where there are 10 people running for president 21+ months before the election, I think this is a good thing. He seems to me to be a man who wants to do his job and do it well, and he can do it best where he is right now. FWIW.

The full list of sponsors is:

John Doolittle, Republican, California
Spencer Bachus, Republican, Alabama
Rick Boucher, Democrat, Virgina
Patrick Kennedy, Democrat, Rhode Island

I'm very glad to see this bill has sponsors from both parties.
