Wow, so this is the third total API change since KDE 1.0? Sounds like another reason to use and develop for GNOME: not only in the ABI stable (i.e. doesn't need to follow the annual C++ changes), but the API hasn't changed in about five years.

It took GnuCash this long to port to the GNOME 2.0 platform. How many KDE applications are stuck in disrepair waiting to port to 2.0, 3.0 or 4.0?

[Ducks for cover... but seriously, I'm curious about this.]

KDE4 hasn't been released yet and it'll take quite some time yet before it is ready. KDE 3 was released in april 2002: http://www.kde.org/announcements/announce-3.0.php

In other words, KDE3 has been stable for quite some years.
