Medsphere sues company's co-founders (Modern Healthcare)
Modern Healthcare has an article about a suit by Medsphere Systems against its co-founders. "According to the lawsuit, these alleged acts include posting proprietary source code known as 'OpenVistA Client' -- also known as 'Kickstand' -- and 'Jumps' on June 6 and June 7 on the SourceForge.net open-source development Web site..." Note that reading the full article requires an intrusive registration step - and isn't worth it. (Seen on Linux Med News).

Second, an interesting interview I found via google for those that need some background on the main players in the drama:

So, they brought in a CEO they couldn't control?
You’ve got a big-name board chair in Ken Kizer. What attracted him to Medsphere?
Ken is one of my personal heroes and mentors. As we learned about VistA and the VA, it became apparent that he was the visionary and thought leader behind their intelligent use of healthcare IT as the enabler of massive quality improvement initiatives. Ken led the largest reorganization of any federal agency in the history of the US. He got everyone behind his vision and implemented an EHR in the largest healthcare organization in the country in four years. We called him out of the blue, two kids with laptops and a theme song out in California, and told him we’d love to get him involved. He’d left the VA by then and was a believer in IT as an enabler of quality. He wanted to get involved with us and we found a way for him to contribute.
Third, A question: What licence was attached to the bits of code that leaked?
Regards,

Is "OpenVistA Client" different from "OpenVistA"? The "OpenVistA" project has been registered with SourceForge since 2003-02-21. Though nothing is showing on SourceForge now, there have been releases in the past (thanks Wayback machine):
Medsphere sues company's co-founders (Modern Healthcare) Posted Aug 4, 2006 20:33 UTC (Fri) by Bravo (guest, #39695) [Link] Medsphere's OpenVistA is proprietary code (or was until Steve Shreeve posted the source code). The proprietary code is described as a "wrapper" around VistA to provide a more commercially suited product.
Steve intentionally posted the source code to sabotage the company, or so goes the claim, which, if you know Steve, is well within his behavior range.
Medsphere sues company's co-founders (Modern Healthcare) Posted Aug 24, 2006 23:36 UTC (Thu) by ossguru (guest, #40126) [Link] "Bravo" seems to be an enemy of Steve's rather than someone who knows anything about thebusiness of open source software.
There are plenty of companies that release source code to the world because it helps them make
So MySQL AB has raised $39 million from very smart VCs with such a business model. Sleepycat
As for Medsphere, OpenVista is an enhanced version of the VA's VistA (or "wrapper" as Bravo puts
Medsphere sues company's co-founders (Modern Healthcare) Posted Dec 30, 2006 11:24 UTC (Sat) by ftrotter (guest, #42477) [Link] Hello,Bravo has chosen to make an ad hominem argument anonymously. So I think it is fair to ignore it. Bravo, if you want to be taken seriously then come forward with your name, and give some details. Thanks, Fred Trotter
