ZDNet reports
that Pervasive Software is getting out of the PostgreSQL support business.
"In a letter to the PostgreSQL community of developers, Pervasive
Software President John Farr said last week that the company
"underestimated the high level of quality support and expertise already
available within the PostgreSQL community.""

as far as the letter goes, setting standards in ethics as well (although use of "IP" from a different eon).

OK, here's the paragraph in question:
We will continue to support our current set of PostgreSQL subscribers through our commitment period. We also plan to donate to the community various IP that we have developed during our initiative. We previously donated to the community our source code for DTrace probes. In addition, we plan to donate various whitepapers, collateral, and other content we have developed over the past year. We hope the community will find these assets useful.
What would you use instead of the "IP"? I don't think they plan to donate "copyrights, patents and trademarks".
IP, or not IP, that is the question

how about "results of our research and development"?
this is just my bias or my reading RMS too much. personally, when I help people I give them code and ideas, howbeit years of work on my behalf. to my knowledge I have never given them "IP", which, IMHO, implies ownership.
please understand that I did and do not demean their actions and ethics, which, to repeat, I think nothing but classy.
