Hello and welcome to the December issue of the LPI-News. 1; The year 2002. 2; Linux World - New York 3; Website Update 4; Level 1 Update 5; T-shirts 6; Opening an LPI Members Account 7; For LPIC graduates 1; THE YEAR 2002 The year 2002 was a very good year for LPI and we would like to thank all our advisory council, volunteers, sponsors and alumni for their consistant support of LPI. Statistics show we have now reached 20,000 exams taken and approximately 6,000 graduates have received their diploma from LPI. You will see on the LWN Timeline for 2002 that LPI reached the 10,000 mark just a few months ago, in April 2002; http://lwn.net/Articles/16862/ Going forward we hope you will continue to support LPI and ensure it remains the community certification of choice. If you are interested in participating in the growth of LPI, please join one of our mailing lists and give us some input; http://www.lpi.org/i-maillists.html 2; LINUX WORLD - NEW YORK http://www.linuxworldexpo.com LPI is once again the certification sponsor at Linux World in New York. We will be offering free testing on the 22nd 23rd and 24th of January at 10AM and 2PM. If you are interested in taking the exam 101 or 201, please let me know. wilma@lpi.org Ensure you come with a registration number (LPI ID number), which you can get here; http://www.lpi.org/c-registration.html We are also looking for booth assistants. If you would like to assist LPI at the booth on the show floor, please let us know. The requirements of being a booth assistant are: a little knowledge about LPI and a willingness to talk about it to others. Please write to me - wilma@lpi.org 3; UPDATING THE WEBSITE - TRANSLATION OF THE WEBSITE LPI is updating it's website and you will see a new and improved site with in the next couple of months. We need to find all who helped translate the original website into the 13 languages to ensure the new site will have the same type of coverage. If you are one of the translators, or helped in any way with the original website translation - please contact us immediately; wilma@lpi.org 4; UPDATING THE LEVEL 1 EXAMS The update of the Level 1 exams is also being completed and you will see the new exams published within the next few weeks. The psycometric studies are being done to ensure a well balanced and valid certification is made available once again. 5: LPI T-SHIRT LPI T-shirts are available from Linux Central. Some of the funds are returned to LPI, so please show your pride in being part of the community that built LPI and purchase an LPI t-shirt. http://linuxcentral.com/catalog/index.php3?prod_code=G000-090 http://linuxcentral.com/catalog/index.php3?prod_code=G000-091 6: OPENING A MEMBERS ACCOUNT If you plan to take an LPI exam, you should go to the members area and log in to get an LPI number which you take to the testing centre to register for the exam. https://www.lpi.org/register.html You will then have a members account which you can update if you change your address, e-mail etc - and you can see your exam details and certification details. If you have already taken an exam but did not register at the LPI site you can still get a members account by going here; https://www.lpi.org/createAccount.html Fill in the details which you will find on your score report, or contact info@lpi.org and we will ensure you have the details you need to get a members account. 7. FOR LPIC GRADUATES One of our LPI supporters - Vitor Choi Feitosa from Brazil, sent this nice idea for those of you with a T200 Sony Ericson phone; " I've made a background image suitable for my SonyEricsson T200 phone using the LPI logo and stating "LPIC-1". Other alumni may be interested in it, so I think it could be mentioned on the next LPI newsletter.
