Quick LWN update

The LWN staff has survived the holidays in reasonably good form. Hopefully the same is true for all of you; we wish you all the best for the new year.

Quite a few LWN subscriptions have expired over the holidays - many people, it seems, signed up at the beginning for a three-month subscription, and that has run out. If you are one of those folks, please consider renewing your subscription so you can have access to LWN's premium content and features and stay on top of what's happening in the Linux and free software community.

The final version of the LWN 2002 Linux Timeline is now available.

Enjoy the first LWN Weekly Edition of 2003, and thanks, as always, for supporting LWN.net.

Sure. But isn't it silly to post this notice on a subscriber-only page?

Not really...there is a grace period after subscription expiration, and the subscriptions that ran out over the holidays will still be in that period, so all of the affected people should still be able to read the Weekly this week.

Talking about premium content, what happened to the plan of having a PDF
version of the Weekly Edition emailed to subscribers?

Sure is a nice plan, isn't it? :)

It's still on the list. As are many other things. The problem we keep running into is deciding how to divide our effort between more site features and better content. It's not much use to have a site full of features if there is little of interest there to read. We'll get the weekly email, the new text ad system, the site code release, etc. But it remains hard to say just when.

Looking forward to it... :)

Would this be a good idea to ask some help from your readers for some task?

I mean, there is probably somebody who could do some jobs, mainly the technical ones? Like this PDF thing...

The best way to get that sort of technical help, I think, is to get the site source out there in the open. Still on the list, but still somewhat distant... but we will get there.
