Probably not news to most LWN readers, but the font article should be ignored: it is describing technologies that are no longer in common use. Goodbye and good riddance to the XLFD (X Logical Font Description). Contemporary applications, toolkits, and desktops use the fontconfig library instead.Linux Gazette #128
