If your going to run firefox then thunderbird may be a good choice for email and such.
If they get that xulrunner stuff going well then that should cut down on the size and hopefully the memory requirements of both applications(, correct?)

xulrunner cuts down disk space requirements, but it'll only cut memory usage down if you have both running at once.
