I think there is one potential usage of SPF that is very simple and
should cut down a fair bit of noise in SMTP-space with no real loss of
value.

That is: if an incoming message doesn't get a clear SPF-PASS, then
don't every send an automatic reply to it. This means no
delivery-failure reports, and no vacation messages.

I think it is much better that these don't get sent at all than that
they get sent to the wrong place.

Providing you use the standard 'guess' for domains that don't publish
SPF, you still send most of the report that you need to. And if this
was widely adopted, it might even act as a gentle stick to encourage
more people to regularise the mail sending, and always send through
the right MTA...
