looks into Novell's recent board shakeup.
"While Novell has embraced Linux and open-source with its acquisition of Ximian and SUSE, it has been unable to profit from these technologies as quickly as many of its investors would like.
Messman, and his plans for Novell, had been criticized since last fall by major stock holders Blum Capital Partners LP investment firm and Credit Suisse First Boston on several fronts. Messman, analysts at both firms felt, had not been moving fast enough to cut the fat from Novell."

His posts have never been coherent enough to really tell if he is a troll, a crackpot, or none of the above. A blacklist may not be necessary. A simple limit on the number of spelling and grammar errors may suffice.

Novell changes leadership, stays Linux course (Linux-Watch) Posted Jun 23, 2006 14:14 UTC (Fri) by arcticwolf (guest, #8341) [Link] Sorry, it may not have been entirely clear what I meant - I was talking about a personal blacklist associated with each account so that people could decide that they'd want to screen out comments made by certain others when logged in (similar to the "ignore" feature in various bulletin board systems, or the "foe" concept on Slashdot), nothing more.
Just to clarify things... :)

Who is in charge is less important than what actual policy changes take place. And there has been no time for the new CEO to do anything.
Personally, I think Novell needs to take a long hard look at how well hybrid OSS/Proprietary business models have worked for Linux companies in the past. Caldera being a notable example.
If Novell wants a Novell-sized piece of the pie, I think they are going to have to out-Redhat Redhat. And I don't think their old school corporate culture is capable of comprehending, let alone executing, a plan to achieve that.

As I recall, more was made of the small change than was really warranted. Of course, with RH, their income was good before the change, and still good after.
