I almost spilled my coffee here. What? Few areas are so dominated by free software as voip is. What is it they want to do?

Just a simple conference could be set up with Asterisk in seconds, and people can call in with any client. I think Ubuntu includes Ekiga, which also happens to run some public servers with conferencing (a quick google search found this).

I'm sure there are tons of other similar applications around.
