The GnuCash 1.9.7 Release [LWN.net]

GnuCash is a GPL-licensed financial application with a wide variety of uses:

Designed to be easy to use, yet powerful and flexible, GnuCash allows you to track bank accounts, stocks, income and expenses. As quick and intuitive to use as a checkbook register, it is based on professional accounting principles to ensure balanced books and accurate reports. GnuCash is backed by an active development community and is blossoming into a full-fledged accounting system.

GnuCash 1.9.7 (an unstable release meant for testing) was announced on June 6:

The GnuCash development team proudly announces GnuCash 1.9.7 aka "Seize the day", the second beta release of the GnuCash Open Source Accounting Software which will eventually lead to the stable version 2.0.0. This release contains many bugfixes since the first beta release.

This release is primarily aimed at bug fixing efforts, some of the improvements include:

Fixes to the XML import capabilities.
Fixes to the HBCI code.
A change of the documentation from html to xml.
Improvements to the MacOS and Windows builds.
Progress bar fixes.
UTF8 improvements.
Fixes relating to glib version 2.6.

Some new features have also been added, including:

Support for Guile 1.8.
A new splash screen.
Updated language translations.

In addition, unfinished functionality has been hidden, and version 1.9.0 of GnuCash-docs has been announced.
