BTW I missed two points I wanted to make..

1. 'derived work' is decided by copyright law, not the GPL. So that's up to a judge to decide and until there is precedence then it's a mostly gray area.

2. It would be nice if Kororaa people would work on help getting a stable XGL livecd using the Free software 3d drivers that we already have. (r200_dri, r300_dri, i915_dri, etc)

Nevertheless, there exists at least one method already established (by (USofAn) caselaw) to decide what is and what is not a derivative work (abstraction, filtration and comparison).
