Top Story
----------------------------------------
Check your Pulse

Mandriva recently released its new open source software deployment
system, Pulse. Pulse is a system for deploying and managing Linux on
large, complex networks, such as those in most large companies and
other organizations. Pulse makes it simple to deploy Mandriva Linux
or even other distributions (including Red Hat Enterprise Linux and
SUSE Linux) across a wide network of machines. Pulse can also manage
Windows systems, to help you during the transition from Windows to
Linux. Pulse will be distributed and supported both directly by
Mandriva and through a network of authorised resellers. The Pulse
software itself is entirely free and has no license fee: Mandriva and
its partners will instead charge for training, service and support in
deploying Pulse. You can read more about Pulse in the press release
and on the product page.

Mandriva Corporate Server 4 beta test program begins

The beta test program for the next release of Mandriva Corporate
Server is now open for applications. Beta program participants will
be expected to test all the beta versions of the new release, file
bugs and provide various other types of feedback. In return, they
will benefit from a one year free license for the final product and /
or a discount on various Corporate products and services (depending on
the size of the company). You can read more about the details of the
test program and how to apply on the Corporate Club site.

Mandriva Club partners with BlogDrake to support Spanish users

In an arrangement which could potentially be duplicated with several
other non-English language communities, the Mandriva Club put into
place an agreement with BlogDrake, the leading community for Spanish
speaking Mandriva users. The BlogDrake site has long been more active
than the official Spanish language Mandriva Club forum, so in future,
BlogDrake will become the official Spanish language forum for the
Mandriva Club. The Spanish link at the Mandriva Club forums page will
soon be adjusted to point to the BlogDrake forums. It is expected that
similar partnerships may be formed in future with other sites. If
you're a Spanish speaker, check out BlogDrake today!

Access to Mandriva Kiosk and Mandriva Club Knowledge Base widened

Since the opening of the Mandriva Kiosk beta test program last month,
many Mandriva Club members have expressed the belief that the
Mandriva Kiosk should be open to Standard Club members as well as
those of the Silver level. Well, we at Mandriva always try to listen
to our users, and so we are doing just that! We have decided that the
Kiosk will be available to Standard as well as Silver members. Access
will be available for Standard members when the beta testing period
finishes, which is currently scheduled for the middle of May. And of
course, if you're not a Club member yet, now would be a great time to
join up and get ready to use Mandriva Kiosk. In addition to this
widening of access to Mandriva Kiosk, we have also expanded access to
the Mandriva Club Knowledge Base, which was previously open only to
Standard and above Mandriva Club members. Now it is open to Alumni
Club members as well. This means that anyone who signs up for a
(free) account in the Mandriva account system at
https://my.mandriva.com can read and contribute to the Knowledge
Base, so if you've never looked at it before, now is the ideal time!

Mandriva Linux 2006 guide on Slashdot

The popular technology news site Slashdot posted a link to this
article about Mandriva Linux 2006 for home users who are considering
the switch to Linux, written by one of our Mandriva Club members. It
takes a look at the pros and cons of switching, and why to pick
Mandriva over other Linux distributions. It also gives a quick guide
to what the new user will find on switching to Mandriva. It's a great
article to show to anyone you know who is considering the switch to
Linux.

New release of MCNLive available

Also in the news recently was the release of the new version of
MCNLive, the Mandriva-based live CD developed by the Dutch Mandriva
community site, MandrivaClub.nl. The new release includes some bug
fixes and the integration of some Mandriva updates, but the biggest
news is an exciting new experimental feature called 'copy2ram'. If
you have at least 512MB of RAM, you can hit F1 at the first boot
screen and type 'livecd copy2ram'. This will boot the live CD and
then copy it to a RAM disk (a 'fake' disk drive created in your
system RAM), which will allow the system to run extremely fast, and
free up the CD drive (you can remove the MCNLive CD when the
copy-to-RAM process is complete) for other discs. It's a great new
feature, so download MCNLive today (the file name is
MCNLive-Leuven_v2.iso) and give it a try!

Lot of nice big stories from the development branches, official versions,
cooker usage, background interviews etc. Keep on going in this way.
