Vnunet
looks at
the new Mozilla 1.0 release.
"Hell froze over in the geek community yesterday as Mozilla 1.0 was finally
released.
After nearly five years of work by thousands of developers, there was much
rejoicing among the expectant fans and pigs were seen cruising at well over
1,000ft.

It's great to finally see a competitive Mozilla. It still eats a whole lot of memory and the menus aren't as responsive as they could be, but pages come up a lot faster then they used to (slightly faster then Konq and only slightly slower then Netscape-4), and it's a whole lot more robust. For a long time I dreaded the path that Mozilla was taking and the fruits of their labor have been a long time coming. But the power is really starting to show and I now believe Mozilla has a great future.
Of all the features available two are real keepers: The TABS feature with background loading makes reading online mags wonderful, and the ability to disable window creation/resizing/repositioning (aka all the stupid window-behind advertising that makes sites like the NYTimes and Yahoo almost unusable can be turned off). These two features alone make it worth the switch!
A wish list for future features: The Konq-like ability to control cookies
and other critical security and usability features on a site-by-site
basis with the same ease that it can be done in Konq.
Great job guys!

Is there a quick way to enable/disable JavaScript in Mozilla 1.0? I'm using version 0.9.9, and the only way I've found to do this is to follow the long, meandering Edit->Preferences->Advanced->Scripts path to get to the JavaScript checkbox.
Two of the things I really dig about Galeon (I'm using version 1.2.0) is the ability to enable/disable JavaScript from a top level menu, and being able to bypass the browser cache and proxy when reloading a page by right-clicking the reload button.
