Red Hat has announced
that it will be acquiring JBoss for $350 million, plus some extra cash if
things turn out well. "By acquiring JBoss, Red Hat expects to
accelerate the shift to service-oriented architectures (SOA), by enabling
the next generation of web-enabled applications running on a low-cost, open
source platform."

Interesting. Guess this means that they will be working very hard to ensure that JBoss runs well under GCJ. (Or does it already?)

It should already work since JBoss works with jamvm/cacao already which are also based on GNU classpath. And JOnAS (another application server) already works pretty decently with gcj.

JBoss has a lot of mindshare in the J2EE market so this makes sense if you want to compete with the Websphere, BEA crowd. I personally wish they'd bought the Spring IoC guys instead.

50% of JBoss customers are running on MSFT Windows. And JBoss has a partner deal with MSFT. So this gets RHAT in some doors that had been closed to them before.
