I disagree: 2+8 is feasible (just) for a router provided you don't
want to have a bearable login environment as well. Which is miserable for
the developer, but makes no odds to the user. Mind you, this was on an
ARM, which I think has noticeably better code density that the MIPS-based
(?) chip in the Linksys. But you have to prune drastically, the result is
a pain to debug since you no longer have a useable interactive
environment, and I can easily imagine a company deciding it was just less
pain to go for a smaller OS.
