Several propritary drivers I've seen from Broadcom for Linux had only partial Broadcom copyright. And they were *really* old. And ported from some funny OSs/architectures. I doubt you would wanted such drivers. Even for free.
With the hardware I worked, Broadcom was providing complete documentation for free - so I had no problems developing drivers for Linux.
Thou as I heard infamous WLAN of theirs still got no public documentation... Go figure.
