Security is going to be the biggest deal. Probably the oldest that I'd be willing to run is going to be Debian Woody. There's also Red Hat Enterprise Linux 2.1. It's a little older than woody (it's roughly equivalent to Red Hat 7.2), but it will be supported by Red Hat (including security fixes) until May 31, 2009. (And if you don't want to pay Red Hat, run CentOS 2.1 and get basically the same software -- without Red Hat support -- for free.)
