USING EMBEDDED LINUX IN A RECONFIGURABLE HIGH-RES NETWORK CAMERA
This technical article describes the architecture and design
philosophy behind a new Linux-based 1.3 megapixel network camera
that delivers full-sized images at up to 15 frames per second.
Because both the embedded software and FPGA hardware algorithms are
released as open source technologies, developers can readily
customize the camera's operation to meet specialized requirements.

Red Hat is adding carrier-grade support to the Red Hat Linux

NEW IP VIDEOPHONE FEATURES AN EMBEDDED LINUX OS
InnoMedia will unveil a Linux-based IP videophone at CableNET '02
in Anaheim, CA. The device, which is equipped with a 4-inch color
TFT LCD and has the look and feel and ease of use of an ordinary
telephone, is capable of delivering real-time high quality video
images at up to 768 Kbps bandwidth.

ZAURUS SL-C700 (VGA MODEL) COMING TO THE US SOON?
An article in PC World reports that Sharp's new Zaurus SL-C700
clamshell-style Linux PDA will be introduced in the U.S. in the
beginning of 2003, priced at about $500. The device features a
miniature notebook-like keyboard along with a unique 640x480 pixel
VGA LCD screen, plus a total of 96MB memory (64MB Flash + 32MB
SDRAM).

GNU BAYONNE TELEPHONY SERVER EXPANDS SYNTHETIC VOICE SUPPORT
The latest Bayonne beta release greatly expands support for and
integration of automated text-to-speech (TTS) synthesized voice
systems. Using technology derived from the "flite" TTS technology
initially developed at Carnegie Mellon University, it's now
possible to have fully automated high quality voice synthesis for
Linux-based telephony applications.

HONG KONG TRIO UNVEILS CHINESE LINUX OS FOR MOBILE DEVICES
Three Chinese companies have announced the "Chinese 2000 Mobile
Linux Operating System." The new Chinese mobile OS resulted from a
joint development effort among the three.

IP TV PLATFORM RESTS ON EMBEDDED LINUX, POWERPC405 FOUNDATION
MontaVista Software and Araneo Ltd. announced a technology
collaboration aimed at the digital TV market. Araneo's IP TV
Platform, developed on the MontaVista Linux OS and development
platform and using IBM STBxxxx integrated controllers, receives
MPEG video streams that are delivered over DVB (Digital Video
Broadcast) or IP, and played directly on TVs.

in a PowerPC-based project and compares the process to development

team chose to go the "roll your own" route, along with some

Molnar explores how he started working on the Linux kernel,
explains the concepts behind his new O(1) scheduler, and describes
many of his other kernel efforts. Molnar's other highly visible
