My comment is for LWN staff: if IBM doesn't have a corporate subscrition, pointing out that they need one to reply to this article would be a good sales pitch!

It appears that this study is inconsistant with it's stated goals. In looking at cross-platform linux, where does the first item "-- The large cost to IBM and its customers of supporting development and marketing efforts across four hardware platforms and several operating systems - not to mention a matrix of Linux distributions." fit in? Across operating systems??? If it's all linux, it's all the same OS is it not? Perhaps they meant operating environment? Or architecture? CHW
