Linux taken for a ride in the Old West (ZDNet)

ZDNet covers a migration to open source in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. "ZDNet UK spoke to Kent Morrison, the manager of information systems at Steamboat Springs, to find out more about the city's migration to open source. Morrison is responsible for two other members of staff in the town's IT department, which supports 160 networked workstations and approximately 220 email accounts across the town."

Steamboat Springs isn't just a consumer of Open Source technology, either. Several key linux/mesa/DRI/OpenGL hackers have lived there over the years (including, if I be so bold, myself). See also Brian Paul's homepage:

Any of y'all have anything to do with the city's move to open source?

That title gave the me the shivers. Where I live in the Southwest... taking someone for a ride is usually a bad thing. It can mean lieing to them or it means taking them for a ride into the desert...

3 OS's go out... but only 2 OS's come back.

And when someone is taken for a ride in the desert, the one being taken for the ride doesn't get to ride back (taking a dirt nap), possibily after something very unpleasant happened to them over a period of time.
