Surely it's more likely that he doesn't have a working driver for the underlying SCSI controller or disk and therefore couldn't specify a root device.

Posted Feb 19, 2006 23:52 UTC (Sun) by jwb (subscriber, #15467) [Link] You need only look at the boot log to see that the kernel discovered his 4 SCSI disks and one ATAPI CDROM, as well as the four ethernet interfaces and various USB root hubs. It really is true that root= was not specified.
