Lag when connecting to sites is something I've recently started to notice in firefox as well, but I can't say for sure if it's since 1.5 or if 1.07 already had it. It became very obvious while trying out the graphical version of links a while ago - even though I probably shouldn't compare the two as the rendering of firefox is orders of magnitude better, links is pretty much instant with showing most pages, while firefox always seems to take a minimum amount of time, perhaps 0.5 seconds or so. If I open a new tab and hit the front page of lwn, it consistently takes over a second to show (on a relatively fast machine with 2gb ram and a solid internet connection).
Is there anything known about what causes that delay, and if it's due to networking/html/server-client stuff or due to rendering being done in the background?
