Must-have Firefox and Thunderbird extensions (NewsForge)

Joe 'Zonker' Brockmeier reviews several firefox and thunderbird extensions on NewsForge. "The Quicktext extension comes in handy for anyone who needs to send out form letters or canned responses via email. This extension lets you define templates that you can insert into an email message from a menu, or (even better) using hotkey combinations. Templates can be simple or very complex."

There's at least one essential (in my opinion) extension for thunderbird that's not mentioned: Quick File. Coming from mutt with tagging and keyboard operations on multiple mails, it's the one I can't live without.

Select mails to be saved, type alt-Q and the first part of the folder name you want to save to, and the extension completes the full name of the folder. I'm not fond of having to hit down-arrow to select the completion, but at least it allows organizing mails without too much mouse-work.

Thats one very useful extension I didn't know about. Thanks!
Actually the only reason I switched from mutt to thunderbird is the layout of the screen: You have an overview over your mailboxes, a mailbox and a mail on the same screen.
I really miss the keyboard only interface mutt has (I hate moving my hand from the keyboard to the mouse).

Then maybe mutt-ng is what you like. It has a side bar witch shows all your mailfolders.

If you've ever typed something into a web browser form's textarea - a blog or a wiki entry -- you're probably as annoyed as I am about mouse-based editing and wished you could just use your favorite editor. mozex adds a popup menu entry to escape out to your favorite editor:

Resizeable textarea lets you grow or shrink those dialogue boxes too:

Finally, User Agent Switcher lets me fake out those sites that refuse to serve me because I'm not running IE (particularly my company's various web apps for expense accounting approval...):
