And these user-space applications will operate the same way and successfully do so:
1) Map hardware registers
2) Control hardware using hardware registers

1) is only possible if (when) kernel allows it. 2) is not possible without 1). So at least GPLv3 kernel will be very good first step for hackers. Worthy goal by itself...

Having access to the registers of disabled hardware is useless. Please go
back and read the pointers I listed earlier. If a device is manufactured
as I described then having the ability of mmapping the registers will not
be helpful to you in any way. You'll still have a dead device.

Again, attacking DRM is a good thing. Believing that the GPL can be used
to attack it effectively shows a profound misunderstanding of the embedded
systems development process and the embedded systems market in general.

In the case of user space drivers the registers will be enabled. Do not
mix one situation with the other.
