GnuCash 1.9.0 released

Note that (at least) the following are required for building gnucash:

guile
g-wrap
slib

If you want OFX support, you need to make sure libofx is installed, which also requires OpenSP.

I list these here because the README file has a section entitled "Dependencies", which contains the following:

"The following packages are required to be installed to run GnuCash:

[FIXME; see README.dependencies]"

And of course, README.dependencies does not exist in the source archive.

Once again, I will not bother trying to build it, as I have better things to do with my time than track down and install a tree of libraries just to even try to compile gnucash. If one uses a lot of libraries not commonly found preinstalled, wouldn't it be a good idea to maybe include proper versions of said libraries in one's build tree? Lots of other projects do this...and it makes life a lot easier.

The project website complains that there's a lack of developers, and so the project is going slowly. Perhaps if they made the code somewhat less annoying to build they would have more help.

Here's a dependency graph:

Warning 1: it's big and takes a while to load.

Warning 2: swallow whatever you're drinking before clicking the link.

Very Lovecraft-ian, that image. *shudders*

What's koffice doing in the dependency graph of a GTK application? And why is vlc there? Does gnucash have a video plugin now?

Stupid graph

That graph includes a *lot* of nodes which are not prerequisites of gnucash in any meaningful sense of that word.

Take with large grain ^w chunk of rock salt.

No, gnucash does not depend on koffice and vlc. They just have random stuff as common ancestors.

GnuCash 1.9.0 dependencies are not really the same

This is not really representative, because it's based on Gnucash 1.8.1. One simple thing that changed is that Gnucash 1.9.0 is said not to depend on Guppi anymore. (Which is a rather good idea, Guppi being an abandoned project.)

I for one welcome the new Gnucash release. Kudos to developers and everyone involved for reaching this point!
